Design and Advantages of the Small Freeze Dryer Cold Trap Water Capture System at Changsha Yingtai Laboratory

The cold trap, as a cooling device, is an ideal companion for vacuum operations. During operation, a freeze dryer cannot effectively remove all the water vapor sublimated solely with a vacuum pump. Therefore, a cold trap water capture system is employed to condense water vapor into frost on the coil surface of the cold trap. The cold trap not only significantly reduces the workload of the vacuum pump but also ensures the vacuum level within the freeze drying chamber remains ideal. The cold trap water capture system of the Changsha Yingtai freeze dryer demonstrates high water capture efficiency and is suitable for drying organic solvents and various corrosive samples.

1. The cold trap is designed with a large opening path to swiftly capture initially sublimated gases, thereby accelerating the freeze drying rate.

2. The cold trap chamber and condensing coil are made of 316L stainless steel and come standard with Teflon corrosion-resistant coating, enabling the freeze drying of organic solvents and various corrosive samples.

3. Coil-type cold trap:

   - The refrigerant cooling capacity directly transfers to the coil, allowing it to directly capture various solvents without cooling loss, ensuring more precise temperature measurement.

   - When a large amount of ice adheres to the coil, it increases the surface area for ice capture.

   - The condensing coil is placed inside the cold trap to promptly capture ice, effectively preventing condensate water from damaging internal electronic components of the equipment.

Compared to smooth-surface cold traps, coil-type cold traps offer higher ice capture efficiency, more precise temperature control, and effectively protect the internal structure of the equipment.
