Horizontal Pulsating Vacuum Autoclave: The "Sterile Escort" for Medical Devices

In the medical device sterile supply center, the horizontal pulsating vacuum autoclave is a core equipment to ensure the sterile safety of devices. It completely removes the cold air in the sterilization chamber (vacuum degree up to -0.098MPa) through a pulsating process of "multiple vacuuming - steam injection", and then uses high-temperature saturated steam at 132℃-134℃ for 10-15 minutes to destroy the structure of microbial such as bacterial spores and viruses on the surface and inside of the devices. Widely used in sterilization scenarios such as surgical instruments, endoscopes, and implantable consumables, it is especially suitable for precision instruments such as laparoscopes and arthroscopes, solving problems such as residual cold air and incomplete sterilization of traditional sterilization methods, and meeting the strict sterility standards of the medical device industry.
Operating the horizontal pulsating vacuum autoclave must follow the principle of "device type adaptation - precise process control". When processing stainless steel surgical instruments, the "3-time pulsating vacuum + 132℃/12 minutes" program is adopted to ensure that the gaps such as instrument joints and alveoli are sterilized in place; when sterilizing heat-sensitive instruments such as endoscopes, the low-temperature pulsating program (121℃/20 minutes) needs to be replaced, and a special sterilization basket is used to avoid instrument damage caused by collision; when processing implantable consumables, a vacuum drying program must be implemented after sterilization to control the moisture content of the instruments below 0.2% to prevent rust from affecting implantation safety. During operation, the chamber pressure and temperature curve must be monitored in real time. If the curve is abnormal, the machine must be stopped immediately for inspection to avoid sterilization failure.
Daily maintenance should focus on "vacuum system" and "safety compliance". After each use, rinse the sterilization chamber and steam pipeline with purified water, then turn on the drying program to remove residual moisture; check the vacuum pump oil level and oil quality every week, and completely replace and clean the oil tank when the oil quality is turbid; disassemble and clean the vacuum valve and steam trap every month to remove impurity blockages and ensure stable vacuum degree; verify the sterilization effect every quarter, and use biological indicators (such as Bacillus stearothermophilus spores) for testing to ensure the sterilization qualification rate is 100%. In addition, sterilization parameter records must be retained regularly to meet the traceability requirements of GMP and ISO 13485 systems.
Compared with traditional downward exhaust autoclaves, the horizontal pulsating vacuum autoclave has the advantages of high sterilization efficiency (processing time reduced by 40%), thorough sterilization (sterility assurance level up to 10⁻⁶), and strong adaptability. With the development of minimally invasive surgery technology, the precision of instruments continues to improve. Horizontal pulsating vacuum autoclaves with intelligent touch control, fault self-diagnosis, and data network upload functions have become key equipment for hospital sterile supply centers and medical device manufacturers to ensure product safety and achieve compliant production.
