1. Low-Speed Centrifuge (<5000 rpm)  

   In low-speed centrifuges, the centrifugal force is relatively small, so the material requirements for the rotor are lower. Common materials include carbon steel, stainless steel, and engineering plastics. These materials provide sufficient strength and corrosion resistance to meet the needs of low-speed centrifuges.

 

2. High-Speed Centrifuge (5000-50000 rpm)  

   In high-speed centrifuges, the centrifugal force increases significantly, so the material requirements for the rotor are higher. High-strength, high-density materials such as aluminum alloys are typically used. Aluminum alloys are lightweight, strong, and relatively cost-effective, making them suitable for withstanding the significant centrifugal force generated at high speeds.

 

3. Ultra-High-Speed Centrifuge (>50000 rpm)  

   In ultra-high-speed centrifuges, the centrifugal force is extremely large, and the material requirements for the rotor are very high. Titanium alloys are commonly used in this case. Titanium alloys are characterized by their low density, high specific strength and fracture toughness, good fatigue strength, resistance to crack propagation, excellent low-temperature toughness, and outstanding corrosion resistance, all of which make them suitable for withstanding the extreme centrifugal forces in ultra-high-speed centrifuges.

 

Key Factors in Material Selection:

1. Mechanical Strength: The rotor must be able to withstand the immense centrifugal forces generated by high-speed rotation.

2. Corrosion Resistance: The rotor will come into contact with various samples, so it must have good corrosion resistance.

3. High-Temperature Resistance: In some applications, the centrifuge needs to operate in high-temperature environments, so the rotor material must possess good heat resistance.

4. Density: The lower the density, the lighter the rotor, which helps reduce vibrations and noise in the centrifuge.

 

The speed of the centrifuge has a significant impact on the material requirements for the rotor. When selecting the rotor material, it is essential to consider factors such as mechanical strength, corrosion resistance, high-temperature resistance, and density to ensure the rotor can safely and reliably operate under high-speed conditions.
